By CBR Staff Writer

Japanese consumer electronics company Nintendo has launched its Wii U console, which features 6.2 inch touchscreen display and a three to five hour battery life, across the UK and Europe.

The new Wii U features the GamePad controller, a tablet-type device which enables users to play even after the connected television is turned off or switched to another channel.

In addition, the controller also includes a camera, motion sensors and traditional buttons, offering new in-game applications as well as traditional games.

The GamePad’s screen include supplementary data that maps or shows a way of changing weapons or items faster. It also allows for asynchronous multiplayer scenarios.

In addition, the Wii U hardware supports high-definition visuals that are comparable to the Xbox 360 and PS3, and also come with new online and social features, including downloadable games, Miiverse and video chat.

The Friend Code system is replaced with a simple and easier username similar to Xbox Live, PSN and other online services and the eShop will enable users to download Wii U retail titles such as New Super Mario Bros U and Nintendo Land direct to user system at launch.

Miiverse is a social space like Twitter and forums that allow users to write messages and draw pictures about various games and topics. It also contains the friends list for user Nintendo Network ID where users can send and accept friend requests.
