The Royal Oldham Hospital, Rochdale Infirmary, North Manchester General Hospital and Fairfield General Hospital in Bury will see installation of the enterprise-wide solution which is expected to improve care for the 10,000 mothers that pass through their wards each year.
Database and integration software providers, Intersystems, say the decision to implement the EuroKing Miracle solution, which uses the InterSystems Cache post-relational database, was driven by Pennine’s need to increase standardization and minimize disruption as the four hospitals were merged into one Trust in 2002.
Intersystems explained that the enterprise-wide implementation at Pennine will allow data to be stored on a single server and be accessed by all authorized users across the four hospital sites. If a mother has previously had children in different hospitals across the Trust, or has visited a number of different antenatal clinics during a single pregnancy, care staff will have access to all appropriate records in real time.
John Lindars, divisional director at The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said, We have been delighted with the EuroKing Miracle solution. Now that we have rolled out this first phase of the implementation, we want to look at other ways we can use the system.
He went on to say, we are keen to expand it out to additional outposts within the community, such as community midwives, through the use of web-enabled handheld devices, for example. Such solutions will help us continue to provide truly effective care for mothers and babies.
