Informix Software Inc is planning to launch its first object-oriented application development tools at its user conference which is scheduled for Florida at the end of July. Formerly known as 4GL++, the tools will be marketed as NewEra and will run under a range of environments, including Unix, Microsoft Corp’s Windows NT, Apple Computer Inc’s Macintosh and OS/2. They will have a Windows-based front-end based on tech nology supplied by last year’s acquisition Intellicorp; will offer code re-usability; and come with a set of sockets into which third party class libraries can be plugged. A convertor kit will also be included, and NewEra is likely to provide workgroup capabilities such as version control. The product will be available from the end of July. It will cost about the same price as Informix’s existing development tools.
