NextLevel Systems Inc, still in the process of changing its name back to General Instruments Corp, has acquired a European cable televsion equipment manufacturer, Fuba Communications Systems GmbH. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Fuba will be integrated with NextLevel’s European operation, based in Berkshire in the UK, and the combination will be run as a wholly owned subsidiary. It gives NextLevel a manufacturing base to support its expanding European business. Fuba, which does the majority of its business in Germany, has built up a large installed base of digital and analog cable headends and cable TV transmission networks. Fuba also has operations in the Netherlands, France, Austria, the UK, Scandinavia, Switzerland and the Middle East, and Chicago, Illinois-based NextLevel says the deal will speed up its expansion outside of the US.
