Next Software Inc is expected to spin its WebObjects programming environment up to release 3.0 today. WebObjects is used for automating Web page creation, designing Web services and tying them into corporate databases. The company is also supposed to make its contribution to the Java commotion, delineating plans for adding Java to its object-oriented software, including the WebObjects server software. Other WebObjects components include a WebObjects Framework, Web server software, Enterprise Objects Framework (EOF), the Portable Distributed Objects (PDO) object model and Secure Sockets Layer security. WebObjects 3.0 is to include a Builder component for creating entire web applications, rather than just interfaces. Last time we heard the company was working to enable users to write entire applications and business logic in Java. Certainly it envisages Java being a significant part of its business.
