NEWTON, NOW INDEPENDENT, HAS NEW CORPORATE IDENTITY

By CBR Staff Writer

Newton Inc, now a separate entity from Apple Computer Corp since its spin off last May (CI No 3,167), wants to put some physical distance in between it and its estranged and wounded parent, and has set up a new headquarters in Santa Clara, California. It also plans new European offices in Germany and the US. Newton chose MacWorld Boston as the venue to show off its brand new corporate identity, a blue and gold logo retains the spirit of the original Newton Light Bulb log, according to the company’s co- founder Heith Yamashita. Newton Inc was officially established as an independent subsidiary of Apple on July 1 1997, and has its own board of directors, financial model and business plan, according to chief operating officer Sandy Benett, who was speaking at the show.
