NEWS IN BRIEF: TECHNOLOGY STOCKS ON WALL STREET

On at least one measure, a raging bear market has gripped Wall Street for almost a year, but the most widely-followed indicators have failed to pick it up. Over 1993 to 1996, a disproportionate amount of money poured into technology stocks, and according to Integral Partners, a West Coast venture capital firm, since last summer, from a universe of 600 counters, the average software company is off 53% from its 52-week high and the average hardware company is down 44%.
