NEWS IN BRIEF: TAIWAN SALES TAX ON MULTIMEDIA COMPUTERS

Taiwan’s finance ministry has thought better of a plan to impose sales tax on multimedia computers as if they were consumer electronics items. It decided that CD-ROM drives and speakers were simply attachments to the computer and that no-one would buy a computer for its capability to act only as a television or a stereo.
