NEWS IN BRIEF: PROGRAMMING & SYSTEMS INC FACE CHARGES

The New York-based Programming & Systems Inc chain of computer vocational schools and two of its executives have been indicted charges alleging that they fraudlently took more than $141m in Federal aid at its Institutes in Baltimore, Indianapolis, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Washington and other cities by concealing students’ high dropout rates between 1988 and 1993. Disclosure of the high withdrawal rates would have caused loss of accreditation to the schools and thus of federal financial assistance.
