While Intel Corp was enthusing to the UK-branch of IT publishing house Ziff Davis that the 133MHz Pentium chip had now become the entry-level chip of choice for PC users, with London-based reseller Mesh Computers on hand to add that like the 486DX2/66 it’s going to go down as one of those classic chips that stays around, Ziff’s US-based Windows Sources magazine was at the same time posting up an article opining that given Intel has cut its Pentium Pro chip to virtually the same price as a Pentium there is now no reason to buy a Pentium, saying that as high-clock speed Pentiums such as the 200MHz version were not giving a sufficiently proportional performance increase to justify purchase, it was now clear that the Pentium has reached the end of its useful life.
