Vodafone Group Plc said subscriber connections showed rapid growth in the second quarter of 1996 with net new worldwide subscribers rising by 256,000 to 3.294m: in the UK, the subscriber base at the end of June stood at over 2.558m and in overseas m arkets it had over 736,000.

Shares in Vocalis Group Plc shot up at the start of first day trading on the London Stock Exchange yesterday, hitting 123 pence against the flotation price of 95p, with over 3.8m shares changing hands.

Omnitel Pronto Italia SpA, 41.3% owned by Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA says it had some 300,000 digital cellular phone subscribers at the end f the first half of 1996: the target is 400,000 by the year-end.

Meantime the state-controlled Telecom Italia Mobile SpA said the number of subscribers for its digital cellular net rose to 772,795 at the end of June, alongside 3.706m for its analogue system, representing a total increase of 624,000 for the first six months of 1996.

Mannesmann Eurokom GmbH yesterday said it had bought a 3.76% stake in Pronto Italia SpA from Banca di Roma for $36.4m: Pronto Italia owns 30% of Omnitel Pronto Italia SpA, and as a result of the acquisition, Mannesmann now holds 5.94% of it.

Shares in Cap Gemini Sogeti SA rose strongly on expectations that the group will gradually sell its 36% stake in Cisi SA; Sema Group Plc failed to buy Cisi late last year.
