Data General Corp is taking Open Market Inc’s Internet software OEM for use with its B2 secure DG/UX and Windows NT offerings where it will be used in conjunction with BDM International Inc’s Cybershield to manage, monitor, record, and analyze Inter net-based transaction activities over the Internet from AViiON servers.

Cable television companies will offer nearly all US elementary and secondary schools free high-speed equipment for linking to the Internet: the companies, which include Tele-Communications Inc and Time Warner Inc, will offer the schools broadband ca ble modems. Cable executives said the project would cost their industry hundreds of millions of dollars and analysts said the companies were hoping that teachers and students would use the same firm to reach the Internet at home.

Apple Computer Inc’s share price is now so low that either Steve Jobs or Larry Ellison could buy the company by putting it on their personal American Express Gold cards, Richard Doherty, president of Seaford, New York-based consultancy Envisioneer ing Inc told the New York Times.
