Makes a change – British Telecommunications Plc is creating more than 1,000 new jobs by opening a tele-marketing centre up in Warrington. Also on the BT front, the company’s cancelled its three-month free trial offer of Caller ID after the Office of Telecommunications said that in the interests of fair competition, such offers needed to be launched with plenty of advance warning.

Tele Danmark A/S loses its fixed line monopoly on Monday, but few believe it will be hurt very much for the first four or five years of telecommunications liberalization.

L M Ericsson Telefon AB, Stockholm, won a contract for the expansion of the analogue mobile telephone network in Shanghai, China, worth $36.5m. It says it also signed an agreement worth $1.4m for the supply of analogue cellular roaming equipment to Guangzhou and Peking.

Nokia Oy will deliver a Groupe Speciale Mobile network to Polish operator Polkomtel SA. The value of deliveries scheduled to the end of 1997 is estimated at about $130m.
