The practice of electronically verifying prescriptions is intended to track and monitor prescriptions to reduce controlled substance abuse.

The VirtualHealth Technologies’ verified prescription system has been recently validated as a result of a pilot funded by the state of Kentucky and the federal government.

To expand its prescription verification service offering, VirtualHealth is acquiring Medical Office Software (MOS), which provides medical software to healthcare providers.

NewMarket Technology, which acquired controlling interest in MOS for $550,000 over two years ago, is selling the subsidiary to VirtualHealth Technologies for $3 million in stock and debt. The company will also provide on-going services to VirtualHealth to support the continued development of its internet-enabled prescription monitoring and tracking software, as well as other healthcare-related technology projects.

The MOS acquisition broadens our activities within the healthcare technology marketplace with its systems and services to physicians, said Deborah Jenkins, VirtualHealth Technologies board member. Among other things we hope to involve MOS and its customers in our unique Veriscrip real-time controlled prescription drug tracking programs for state and federal agencies.
