The Newbridge Microsystems arm of Ontario, Canada-based Newbridge Networks Corp has announced a new Asynchronous Transfer Mode adaptor for personal computers. The company claims that its NM 121 ATM Adaptor is intended for personal computers running all versions of Novell Inc NetWare, Personal NetWare, MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows and that it is the first Asynchronous Mode network interface board that works with NetWare servers and personal computer clients. The adaptor is also said to be compatible with Asynchronous Transfer Mode hubs and switches from SynOptics Communications Inc and Fore Systems Inc. According to Newbridge, the adaptor has a throughput of up to 100Mbps over multi-mode fibre and as many as 4,000 permanent virtual circuits; it also supports remote management using SNMP, and TCP/IP and IPX protocols. The NM 121 will be out next month; no prices yet.
