As part of the two companies joint ATM asynchronous transfer mode strategy, Newbridge Networks Corp and Siemens AG have announced what both claim is the world’s largest capacity ATM carrier-class switch as the latest product in their unified ATM product line. The MainStreetXpress 36190 Core Services Switch, say the companies, targets carriers seeking an efficient means of building reliable, high performance ATM core networks. The switch will scale to greater than one terabit per second on a single system. The Siemens/Newbridge MainStreetXpress 36190 Core Services Switch has full fault-tolerance through fully redundant shared subsystems and interfaces as well as ongoing intelligent diagnostics. The switch also complies with international standards and is designed to incorporate both ATM Forum and ITU International Telecommunications Union standards. The first deliveries of the MainStreetXpress 36190 Core Services Switch are scheduled to begin during mid-1997 and are set to be sold by both companies.
