The New York Times Co intends to buy Abuzz Technologies Inc, the creator of the Beehive email-based knowledge management software. Just what the Times hopes to do with Abuzz, which forwards email to company experts and rates and archives their answers, is unclear. Earlier this year, the Times consolidated its 50 online properties, including the New York Times on the Web, boston.com, New York Today and WineToday.com, into a single entity called Times Company Digital as part of an aggressive internet push. Rather ominously, Time Company Digital CEO Martin Nisenholtz said of the Abuzz acquisition: This resource will be a dream-come- true for our growing audience of like-minded people and for the advertisers who want to reach them. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
