MCI Communications Corp, Washington has announced enhancements to its VideoNet digital videoconferencing service, and a strategic alliance with Compression Labs Inc, San Jose. The VideoNet enhancements are designed to enable customers to place calls to users of other carriers switched digital services, and provide multipoint bridging for users of Compression Labs’s videoconferencing equipment: MCI says that it can now support multipoint bridging for Compression Labs’s Rembrandt II/VP line, and will add support for its new Eclipse Series and all standards-based systems in the first quarter of next year. The company has also added seven countries to its International service, bringing the total number to 17. Under terms of the Compression Labs alliance, the latter will provide Sprint with turnkey equipment which MCI says will enable it to offer substantial customer savings.
