Over 30 commercial banks in the Urals region based in Ekaterinburg, Perm, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen, Kurgan and have been recently switched to UralVES, a new telecommunications network: the project was set up by Informatsionnye Tekhnologii of Ekaterinburg which was founded by the massive Ekaterinburg-based UralMash machinery enterprise, the local telephone Network, MGTS, the Microtest company and the Mathematics and Mechanics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences; network equipment was supplied by TDT of Germany and installed by Microtest; the creation of the UralVES network has immediately increased the quality of banking services in the region and has acted as a stimulus for the computerisation of the commercial banks in the Urals.
