NEW RULES FOR EXPORTS OF COMPUTERS TO THE COMECON COUNTRIES

By CBR Staff Writer

The UK Department of Trade & Industry has now published its version of the new rules for exports of computers to the Comecon countries formulated by the US, Europe and Japan in the Paris based CoCom co-ordinating committee for sensitive exports: personal computers with up to 4Mb main memory can now exported with UK approval without the need for a reference to CoCom, and machines with up to 8Mb memory may well win approval; relaxations also apply to disk and tape drives and to local area networking equipment.
