By CBR Staff Writer

Milpitas, California-based Quantum Corp has launched four removable hard drives designed for applications on AT, Micro Channel and Macintosh systems: they have access times of 9mS, 17mS seek times and a data transfer rate of 1.4Mb-per-second; they use Quantum’s proprietary DisCache technology and up to 256Kb of random access memory, and the four models provide 50Mb, 105Mb, 120Mb and 240Mb of storage; housed in an chassis that mounts in a 5.25 bay or external configuration, they use a SCSI interface and lay claim to a mean time between failure rate of 250,000 hours; also, the chassis can support new generations of drives as they are introduced; the 50Mb and 105Mb capacities will be available in January, and volume shipments of the 120Mb and 240Mb will begin in March; costs range from $918 for a 50Mb drive with a chassis for a Macintosh, to $1,897 for a 240Mb drive with an chassis and adaptor for a Micro Channel system.
