Apple Computer Inc has come out with two new photographic quality laser printers and a scanner: the new Laserwriter IIf and IIg print the usual 300 dots per inch, but the positioning and size of the dots can be varied to create 67 shades of grey; used with Ofoto software from Greenbrae, California-based Light Source Inc, the scanner can be calibrated so that an image on a computer screen or output to a printer closely resembles the original photograph; the Laserwriter IIf is $3,500 and the IIg the same thing with sufficient memory for grey-scaling – is $4,500; the scanner costs $1,300.
