New Medium Enterprises inks HD VMD deal for central Europe

Having reached distribution agreements in Germany and India for HD VMD content and HD players, New Medium Enterprises has now entered into an electronic distribution agreement with Orava that will see HD VMD devices go on sale in Poland and central Europe in 2007.

By CBR Staff Writer

Orava is a multinational firm that specializes in the distribution of electronics AV products and domestic appliances for the consumer markets of Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The company delivers its products to four big chains – namely Ahold (Hypernova), Okay, Avans, and Neonet – and to about 900 independent retail stores in Poland.

New Medium Enterprises (NME) has already reached commitments from leading Polish film content distributors that will complement the launch of HD VMD players. Orava will distribute the VMD bundled HD solution.

This agreement is a further milestone in NME’s strategy of getting HD VMD into every living room globally, commented Mahesh Jayanarayan, CEO of NME.

In addition, Orava said that an initial market survey with 48 stores has been very positive.
