Irvine-based New Media Corp has also come up with the Multimedia Combo – used in the CD Sound Studio, which it reckons is the first PCMCIA card to perform two multimedia functions – it combines a high-speed PCMCIA-to-SCSI adaptor with a 16-bit PCMCIA sound card for one-slot portable multimedia applications. It records and plays back 16-bit stereo sound with sampling rates as high as 44.1KHz and handles .WAV files, provides .SND, .AVI, MIDI, .AIF .VOC, and .RMI play capabilities and .WAV mixing and with the OPL-3 chip, users can do analogue and digital sound mixing with 20-voice FM synthesis. It is available now at $500.
