According to McAfee, the new VirusScan includes features such as improved on-access and on-demand file caching for quicker scanning, centralized management though ePolicy Orchestrator 4.0 and support for incremental signature file updates from megabytes to kilobytes.

The new VirusScan protects Mac OS X version 10.5 against approximately 330,000 pieces of malware and viruses. McAfee said that it can be centrally managed through the ePolicy Orchestrator for company wide deployment.

No operating system can be completely immune from attack and our Apple customers deserve up-to-the minute protection, said Sridhar Jayanthi, vice president of product development at McAfee. VirusScan for Mac will help ensure that customers stay protected regardless of which operating system they are using.

The software is available online and through McAfee resellers.

MacAfee’s competitors have also launched antivirus software for the Leopard operating system. Sophos’ Anti-Virus for Mac version 4.9 and Symantec’s Norton Confidential for Macintosh and the Norton AntiVirus 10.x.x for Macintosh are compatible with the Leopard.
