Synergy Semiconductor Corp, Santa Clara, has signed agreements for the formation of a new joint venture with the Halbleiterwerk Frankfurt on-der-Oder bipolar semiconductor plant about 50 miles east of Berlin in former East Germany: the new venture, as yet unnamed, will produce chips for the European market, including Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union; the plant houses a large wafer fab and plastic and hermetic package assembly lines, a large computer-aided design capability and test areas; Synergy will license its Asset All Spacer Separated Element Transistor technology to the new venture and Synergy personnel will manage the venture for some period to infuse new operational, marketing and sales capabilities; as well as its existing products for consumer, computer, industrial and telecommunications markets, the new venture will also market Synergy’s family of ultra-fast ECL statics, logic, clock control, translator and semicustom products in Europe.
