NEW INTERNATIONAL VALUE-ADDED NETWORK SERVICES APPROVED BY THE MINISTRY OF P&T

The Ministry of Posts & Telecommunications has approved GE’s Geisco in partnership with NEC, and Network Information Services in partnership with McDonnell-Douglas’ Tymnet opening international value-added network services in competition with KDD’s Venus-P packet network: the licences are good for three years and permit only protocol conversion, code format conversion and provision of added value communications services; NEC and GE will offer electronic mail services and Network Information and Tymnet electronic mail, and protocol conversion on data communications, undercutting Venus-P by about 20%.
