Concurrent Computer Corp UK unhelpfully forgot to mention at its Monday bash that its US parent was simultaneously launching a new top-end processor in the old Perkin-Elmer 3200 range (CI No 1,068). The 3280E MPS appears to use the same processor as its predecessors, but is characterised by a new fast ECL central memory bus. The machine takes up to 12 processors for 12 to 76.8 MIPS performance, and up to 120Mbytes-per-second throughput, the new bus having 256Mbps capacity. Prices start at $360,000 for a system with two processors with 16Mb memory, to $1.8m for fully configured 256Mb systems.
