The Scitor subsidiary of SITA, the Society of International Transporters by Air, which provides international network services to the airline industry, has anounced a global Frame Relay service based on SITA’s global Mega Transport Network. It is available immediately in North America and some countries in Europe and the Far East, and more countries are to be added during the first six months of next year. The service is immediately available in the US, France, Germany, Hong Kong and the UK, while Mexico, South Africa, Portugal and Spain among others will be added next year. The network supports access rates of 56Kbps/64Kbps to 256Kbps, and provides users with a Committed Information Rate of between 16Kbps and 128Kbps between each pair of locations. In addition, Scitor says that it is providing an Excess Information Rate feature, enabling users to exceed their Committed Information Rate by up to 100% for instantaneous bursts of user data, and by up to 50% for sustained bursts. The Mega Transport Network is constructed out of Northern Telecom Ltd’s DPN-100 packet switches and the new service will cost $3,900 a month between any two European locations.
