New Era of Networks Inc has agreed to acquire German SAP R/3 consultants SLI International AG for $22m in cash and stock, plus an extra $3m if financial targets are achieved. SLI, which has 170 staff and 150 customers in the retail, pharmaceutical and high-technology industries, will give Neon vertical market SAP expertise and take Neon further into the SAP implementation business. Neon says it will also use SLI’s configuration methodology, the SLI Cross-Functional Check, to plan and scope R/3 implementations.

SLI has its headquarters near Zurich in Switzerland, and has offices in London, Atlanta, San Francisco, Singapore, Kuala Lumpar and Hong Kong. The acquisition will take Neon’s total number of employees above 1,000. Neon says the enterprise application integration market is now maturing, and that customers are looking for industry-specific implementations. It says the next major advance in EAI will be the introduction of business process integration products.

The company reported its first quarter results yesterday (see separate story).
