NEW DIRECTORY SERVICE FROM PHONELINK AND BT

By CBR Staff Writer

Phonelink Plc and British Telecommunications Plc are launching a computer-based telephone directory service to be sold on subscription: Phonelink will take a share of the annual software fee of UKP300 per subscriber, plus part of the 12 pence charge per enquiry; the new TeleDirectory uses Windows-based software and offers access, via a personal computer, to over 17m UK business and residential telephone numbers; enquiries take an average 15 seconds to answer and users currently obtaining five telephone numbers a day from British Telecom would make savings with the system.
