Belluzzo comes from Microsoft, where he was promoted to COO, third in command to Bill Gates and Steven Ballmer, in February 2001. He also served at Hewlett-Packard (HP) for 20 years, before leaving to take the helm at Silicon Graphics.

At Microsoft, Belluzzo was responsible for the development of such projects as Xbox and .NET, as well as directing MSN web portal’s commercialisation. Amid rumours of personal and stylistic differences with Ballmer, he resigned in April this year, intending to start up his own business.

With Quantum planning to expand its range of tape automation and NAS servers toward the mass market, Belluzzo’s experience at dealing with the consumer market at HP and Microsoft, may be of valuable use.
