Apple Computer Inc chief executive Gilbert Amelio says that volumes and prices for the company’s products in Japan are picking up following a shift in strategies in recent months. I am very pleased with what’s going on in Japan, Amelio said at Apple’s WorldWide Developers Conference – volumes are up, prices are up, markets are up, following a move back to a strategy of attracting buyers rather than the strategy instituted last year of incentives to dealers to move products, which had produced poor results. Amelio said the market for Apple’s products in Europe was still lousy, adding that hardest hit were Germany and the UK, while business was pretty well-off in France, where the Mac has always been fashionably chic.
