NEW 44 MIPS VERSION OF HEWLETT-PACKARDS PRECISION ARCHITECTURE RISC PROCESSOR WILL SHIP NEXT YEAR

By CBR Staff Writer

A new 44 MIPS version of Hewlett-Packard Co’s Precision Architecture RISC processor will be shipping in volume by March next year tagged at around $21,000, the same price as the existing 22 MIPS implementation: the clock rate is doubled to 36.4MHz, cache grows to a full 1Mb and the chip count has been reduced from seven to three by cutting the space between the CMOS features on the chips to 0.8 from 1.5 microns.
