NEW 10 MIPS RISC IN THE WORKS AT RIDGE COMPUTERS

By CBR Staff Writer

With $12m from its fourth round of financing – supported inter alia by its French partner Groupe Bull (CI No 641) – Ridge Computers Inc of Santa Clara now has the resources to bring to market a whole string of enhancements to its Reduced Instruction Set Unix workstations. A new release of its Unix implementation will boost performance of the present generation to 5 MIPS from the current 4.3 MIPS, according to Electronic News, and that will be followed up by a release that supports multiprocessor configurations of the Ridge systems. And in a few months’ time, Ridge is hoping to bring to market a new implementation of its CPU delivering 10 MIPS.
