SeeSpace’s InAir brings web content ‘in the air’

The technology displays web content in the air between consumers and their 3D TV.

By CBR Staff Writer

SeeSpace has launched a new augmented television system, allowing users to view web content in the air between the veiwers and their 3D TV by creating a new dynamic medium.

The InAir system comes with an internet-connected device called InAiR Smart HDMI Adapter, which will be installed between the TV and set-top box.

When you switch on the system, the adapter shows content you’re watching using the company’s "Automatic Content Recognition" technology, which can find related social and web-based content and more traditional information.

SeeSpace co-founder and CEO Nam Do said viewers don’t want to watch TV in isolation any more.

"They want context: graphics, information and social engagement. Today, there is no easy way to display this content without the second screen," Do said.

"We had to crack both the design and the technical challenges to deliver InAiR, a completely new kind of viewer interface.

"InAiR makes use of the entire viewing space in front of the TV, and creates a new medium of combined media like nothing people have interacted with before."

The new system is capable of working with any existing TV, including standard 2D, 3D and 4K Ultra HD, the firm said.

Users can also convert any iOS or Android mobile device such as smartphones, tablets and smartwatches into a track pad type controller by installing the free InAiR application.

Consumers can also operate the system via gesture control through a Kinect or Leap device.
