Businesses can now analyse big data in real time on the latest version of SAP’s business management solution Business One, the ERP giant claimed today.

SMBs running the latest (9.0) iteration of Business One on HANA, SAP’s in-memory relational database, can use it to boost application performance and analyse growing volumes of big data in real time, said the German firm.

It also offers features only possible with the use of in-memory technology, which speeds up the performance of business applications, added SAP.

The company claimed its latest product can cut the time it takes to analyse structured and unstructured big data from days to seconds.

Gert Boutsen, head of the Financial Department at SAP customer Royal Sporting Club Anderlecht, said: "We chose SAP Business One on SAP HANA to prepare our business for the future on both functional and technical levels.

"We now have an affordable method to manage ticket sales, sponsorships, broadcasting rights and the buying and selling of our soccer team’s players — all in one integrated system."

Customers can run the solution on-premise or in the cloud, or have the service hosted by partners.

The news comes after the ERP giant announced its cloud strategy last week, in which it put application development at the heart of HANA, which began as an in-memory relational database to speed up response times on business applications, but is now being expanded into new fields like product development and being used as an analytics engine.

SAP wants to encourage startups and developers to build big data-related applications on the platform, after its head of global startup recruiting, Gary Parnell, admitted last month that SAP is seeking innovation outside its own walls.

The firm’s cloud strategy is split into three parts: SAP HANA AppServices, SAP HANA DBServices, and SAP HANA Infrastructure Services.

"We are simplifying access and expanding the market reach for SAP’s breakthrough SAP HANA platform," said Dr. Vishal Sikka, member of the executive board. "With these steps, customers and partners can experience the power of SAP HANA and build amazing applications in any way they choose to chart new frontiers in cloud-based software without compromise."

New pricing options are also intended to make the platform more attractive by starting at a base price with the options of adding more services.
