MongoDB has rolled out the latest version of its NoSQL database, integrating the storage engine from WiredTiger, which it acquired last year.

Set for launch in March, the new MongoDB 3.0 boasts major performance and scalability improvements with enhancements in the storage layer.

MongoDB co-founder and CTO Eliot Horowitz said: "Users love MongoDB because it offers the fastest time to value compared to any other DBMS technology."

"With 3.0, MongoDB’s performance, scalability, and manageability now set the standard for today’s most demanding applications."

"Moreover, with this release users can build applications that deliver between 7x and 10x greater write throughput, while using up to 80 percent less storage, and managing their operations with up to 95 percent less effort."

The company claims that MongoDB 3.0 and Ops Manager will allow businesses to enhance time to value for organisations, while give access to new classes of applications including Internet of Things (IoT), time series data analysis, messaging, and fraud detection.

The company has also launched a new application called Ops Manager to handle MongoDB deployments,

Being delivered as part of MongoDB Enterprise Advanced, Ops Manager is aimed at trimming down the operating costs of managing complex MongoDB deployments by about 95% for several operations.

MongoDB president and CEO Dev Ittycheria said: "This release marks a seminal event not only for our company, but also for the industry.

"With the features, performance, management, and cost benefits provided by version 3.0, users and IT organizations can now confidently standardize on MongoDB as the DBMS platform for today’s modern applications.

"MongoDB is the database of the post-relational era."
