Facebook has launched a new app that lets feature (low-end) mobile phones data-free access of the site on select telecom carriers for the first 90 days.
The app is expected to provide for an easy-to-navigate home screen, contact synchronisation and fast scrolling of photos and friend updates, wrote Facebook mobile programme manager Mark Heynen.
Facebook has built the app along with Snaptu, a free mobile app platform that lets mobile phone users to access website on their phones.
The app works on more than 2,500 devices from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, LG and other brands, the social networking site said.
The site has teamed up with 14 telecom operators across the world to let customers use the app without incurring data charges for the first three months.
The offer is available now on the feature phones that use mobile operators Dialog (Sri Lanka); Life (Ukraine); Play (Poland); StarHub (Singapore); STC (Saudi Arabia); Three (Hong Kong); Tunisiana (Tunisia); Viva (Dominican Republic); and Vodafone (Romania).
The feature is expected to launch soon on Mobilicity (Canada); Reliance (India); Telcel (Mexico); TIM (Brazil); and Vivacom (Bulgaria).
