New app records emotional reactions

Dumbstruck allows users to send messages and receive images of friends’ reactions.

By Joe Curtis

A new messaging app that records people’s reactions to photo messages has been launched.

Dumbstruck is the latest venture to come out of Doctored Apps, the New York-based mobile app idea lab, and it allows users to take and send photos, before recording the recipient’s reaction and sending that back to the user.

The app is aimed at users of messaging services such as Whatsapp and Snapchat, and people’s reactions can be shared via Facebook and Twitter.

A post on the firm’s blog reads: "When you share a funny photo or a heartfelt story with a friend, you want to experience your friend’s reaction.

"Unfortunately, there’s never been a way to capture reactions to the messages you send on your phone. For the first time ever, you can send a message to your friends and actually capture their reactions."

The app is free from Apple’s App Store and images of reactions are automatically deleted within 24 hours, unless otherwise specified.
