Acility, Industry leader in Low Power Wide Area Networks for the Internet of Things, announced today it has signed a landmark agreement to launch an Internet of Things (IoT) network on a New Silk Road.
ThingPark China, Xi’an Beilin District Science and Technology Bureau, and Shaanxi Radio and Television Network Group, are teaming up to create the network for the country’s programme.
New Silk Road initiative forms part of President Xi’s $100billion Belt and Road programme, hoping to recreate a modern version of the ancient Silk Road. The programme focuses on commerce, connectivity and cooperation between Asia and Europe.
The Belt and Road scheme was first announced in 2013, intended to increase trade and encourage growth around Asia and further countries by building land and sea commerce infrastructure, connecting China to other countries around the world.
Internet of Things Network to launch on New Silk Road
The IoT network will be used for environmental monitoring and exposing potential for social and economic benefits for the Asian region. In a report from Accenture Technology, analysis showed the IoT could add $196billion to the GDP in manufacturing industries over the next 15 years. , with manufacturing industries making up the highest proportion of the IoT’s economic benefits, ahead of public services spending by the government.
ThingPark China has great experience and revolutionary technology, which together with Shaanxi Radio and Television Network Group, the two companies will install a low-power IoT system covering Beilin’s entire district.
The first stage will see the launch of a test network covering 23 square kilometres in the District, by taking advantage of the scientific and technological strengths and rich human resources of the Beilin District.

The test will be tailored specifically to Beilin District’s business needs, including an environmental monitoring data platform. This platform allows the District to collate, upload and analyse environmental data within the area, increasing work efficiency and decision-making.

With the industrial innovation platform, made up of with IoT hopes to encourage further investment across the region, for high technology companies to open up around the city. The development of the New Silk Road will hope to increase the value of industries across the region, globally adding $14.2trillion to the world economy by 2030.
