McLaren Mercedes vrooms with Lenovo in hand

Formula 1 team to work on Lenovo PCs

By CBR Staff Writer

The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team will use Lenovo’s notebooks and desktops during the 2009 Formula 1 season, to send real-time race data to the statisticians and engineers working back in the UK.

Lenovo has said that its engineers are already on the job ascertaining the specifications for mobile wireless computing technology and desktop computing needs of the pit garage and pit wall battle-stations.

The McLaren team will work on Lenovo’s PCs both at the race track and at the team’s headquarters.

Deepak Advani, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Lenovo, said: “Vodafone McLaren Mercedes integrates PC technology into every aspect of its car design, development and racing as well as its business operations. Lenovo has a heritage of computing performance and reliability in high-profile, global events — such as the Olympic Games — and we look forward to making a significant contribution to the team.

During the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Lenovo launched a blogging programme and website for athletes to share their experiences during the competition period itself. The company provided IdeaPad and other notebook PCs and video cameras to more than 100 athletes from 25 countries and 26 sports for blogging.

In addition, Lenovo has set up internet lounges, called i.lounges, with 260 computers, to provide internet access to athletes and officials. The facility was offered at the Olympic Villages in Beijing, Qingdao and Hong Kong as well as at the Paralympic Games.
