British microchip designer Imagination Technologies has appointed the former CEO and president of Sony Ericsson as chairman.
Bert Nordberg will take on the role from 20 March 2015, following the retirement of Geoff Shingles. In addition to his recent role at Sony Ericsson, Nordberg has been chairman of Vestas Wind Systems and a non-executive director at Blackberry.
The technology veteran joins the company at a time of uncertainty and volatility. The Hertfordshire-based chipmaker, which supplies graphics processors, had seen large growth driven by the popularity of Apple products. However, recent years have seen significant losses due to increases in R&D costs and a declining market share.
"It is a great pleasure to welcome Bert to Imagination," commented Imagination’s Senior independent director David Anderson, as reported in City AM. "His considerable expertise in running and chairing international technology companies will be a great asset to the group."
