German law firm to reveal the names of internet porn users

Urmann and Colleagues (U+C) will publish users those accused of illicitly downloading pornographic material from 01 September 2012

By CBR Staff Writer

German law firm Urmann and Colleagues (U+C) is planning to publish the contact information of those who are illegally downloading large amount of pornographic material from 01 September 2012, on its website.

The firm claims to have a list of about 150,000 names of those internet users responsible for the unauthorised downloading of copyright-protected works and sharing them with other internet users.

Earlier the company reported that it had contacted all 150,000 of the alleged smut smugglers about settling their accounts with the porn firms.

U+C claims that it is within its legal rights to reveal the names, provided the accused have not stood trial.

Opponents of U+C’s plan reveal that the court ruling was to enable attorneys to publish the names of firms but collectively, not private individuals.

According to some reports which quoted that the firm would prioritise clients with IP addresses linked to a church, police station or an embassy of a Middle East country: all websites where being publicly linked to hardcore porn would be a particular embarrassment.

Urmann and Colleagues (U+C) however offers the accused a choice to settle their copyright violation by paying one time payment $815 to compensate the copyright holder.
