According to Alcatel-Lucent, once deployed, its IP communications network will allow University of Concepcion students, professors, administrative staff and others to communicate and collaborate with enhanced security, speed, and reliability. The users will enjoy the benefits of unified communications including audio and video conferencing for increased productivity and wireless internet for a mobile learning environment. The campus security will also be improved with alarm and video surveillance systems and inter-campus calls will be cheaper.

The network installation is being carried out by Alcatel-Lucent’s business partner e-Business Distribution, and will be centrally managed by Alcatel-Lucent’s OmniVista technology for telephony, unified communications, IP phones, LAN and WLAN across the campus.

Sergio Lavanchy, director of Universidad de Concepcion, said: Completely transforming our voice, data and video network on wired, wireless and optical infrastructures is a significant undertaking. We are investing in this project to maintain the highest standard of education at Universidad of Concepcion, and look forward to becoming the university with the most advanced communication infrastructure in Chile.
