NETWORK PERIPHERALS EXPECTS Q1 OPERATING LOSS

By CBR Staff Writer

Milpitas, California-based Network Peripherals Inc expects a small operating loss in the first quarter because it has decided to focus on Fast Ethernet switching products it said, but expects to break even on a net profit basis and generate revenue of $9.5m to $10m. The forecasts exclude a one-time charge of $11m to $13m from its recent $21m purchase of Taiwanese networking firm NuCom Systems Inc (CI No 2,857). Fourth quarter 1995 net profits were $1.3m, on sales of $10.4m. Network Peripherals’s Fast Ethernet strategy includes the recent introduction of 13 products, the NuCom purchase and plans to display its products at the InterOp trade show in Las Vegas, which starts April 2.
