Menlo Park, California-based Network General Corp and Mountain View, California-based Optimal Networks Inc have teamed to develop a management system for the design, optimisation and capacity planning of complex wide area and local area networks. The idea is that Network General’s Expert Sniffer Network Analyser and Distributed Sniffer System will transfer network information that can then be used by Optimal’s network optimisation and planning technology. The companies claim the system will be the first one available to enable analysed network information to be used for in-depth analysis and event simulation, and that will enable network managers derive specific optimisation recommendations and preview future designs and changes through ‘what-if’ valuations. The new system is intended to be ready in the first half of next year.
