“NETWORK CARS” ON THE WAY

Smart cars, rather than smart cards, are driving computer firms crazy with excitement. No sooner have we got used to the idea of network computers than ‘network cars’ are speeding in our direction. IBM Corp, Delco Electronics Corp, Netscape Communications Corp and Sun Microsystems Inc have announced an initiative aimed to add work productivity tools, safety and entertainment features to cars that millions are condemned to spend hours in each day. A concept vehicle is on show at the Comdex show in Las Vegas, dripping with technology so that drivers can listen to e-mail or ask for directions while passengers have terminals next to their seats to watch TV or play games.
