Network Associates, the company formed by the merger of McAfee Associates and Network General (CI No 3,302), says it will develop a version of its VirusScan anti-virus software for handheld devices running Microsoft Corp’s Windows CE operating system. The company says it plans to be the first to market with a native CE virus protection product, hoping to capitalize on the expanding market for handheld devices, which hit 1.3 million units shipped in 1997. The first adaptation of VirusScan should be available for CE in the first half of this year, and pricing has yet to be determined.
