UK mobile network is set to be redefined with the launch of Anywhere Sim, a SIM card that will connect users to any UK mobile network that provides the best coverage.

Brainchild of a Lancashire-based start-up, Anywhere Sim, the service is set to be launched within five weeks.

The startup has collaborated with a business based outside the UK that has roaming agreements with network providers in the country, reported the BBC.

The service will offer free roaming across the UK, allowing users to switch between any major UK networks including Vodafone, O2 and EE.

The startup says that it will offer one flat rate on network for calls, one rate for sms and one rate for data, as well as for roaming across the EU.

However, the service will not provide access to 4G internet initially; and users will not be able to switch networks in the middle of a call.

The company said that customers will be able to receive calls across all the networks, but outgoing calls and data use will be initially limited to O2 and it will cost 5 pence per min, per SMS and per MB.

Users of other networks in UK will have to pay 10 pence per min, 5 pence per SMS and 10 pence per MB, and EU customers will have to pay 15 pence per min, 5 pence per SMS and 10 pence per MB.

Few mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) do offer similar services but they are generally targeted towards business customers and are expensive.
